International Internships

An international internship is a great way to gain hands-on experience in your field while immersing yourself in a new culture and developing a global perspective.

You can explore opportunities through Western International and should begin researching and planning as early as possible--ideally in your first year. Because deadlines are often set long before departure and vary by organization, contact Western International at least a year in advance to discuss your options.

Search the Atlas database with the keyword “internship” for a full list of programs. Please note that application fees apply. However, students pursuing in-person international opportunities can apply for scholarships and funding, which help offset costs.

Prefer to stay closer to home? Western International also offers virtual internships, giving you many of the same benefits without travelling abroad.

You may also be able to count both remote and on-site international internships for academic credit through the Arts & Humanities Internship Program. Contact the Experiential Learning team to learn more.

Global and Intercultural Engagement Honour

The Global and Intercultural Engagement Honour is a special distinction that recognizes students' global and intercultural experiences--both academic and extracurricular, at Western and abroad. Once completed, it appears on your Official Academic Record and complements your degree.

Plan well in advance: to complete the requirements, you'll need to get started early in your academic career. Learn more on the Global & Intercultural Engagement Honour site or email goabroad@uwo.ca.
